Panama as International Center for Events
The Panama Tourism Authority continues its efforts for mass advertising and marketing of Panama in the North America, Latin America and European market, to help give continuity to tourism growth recorded by the country in recent years. Marketing strategy through the Panama advertising campaign presents a series of five commercial to be used for international dissemination.
The Tourism Authority, through market research activities, found that large-scale events are a business opportunity for the private sector and for tourism promotion in the country. For this, the authority has engaged joint cooperation between government and private companies to put Panama in a leading position in the region as a destination and international center for events. This initiative reflects the interest of promoting the country as a destination for world-class events, taking advantage of its strategic location, ease of arrival and its great commercial positioning achieved internationally.
The goal is to place the Republic of Panama on the map of international events such as World entertainment center, producing mega events throughout the year, including concerts, festivals, and corporate events of high quality.
It is therefore important to note that Panama has one of the best centers of major connectivity in America, which is ratified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), who placed in 4th place of importance in terms of "hubs".
In recent years, Panama has experienced a boom in the tourism sector; coupled with the development of economic policies that promote investment across the country.
Today, it has regulations that encourage foreign investments in the tourism sector. These are mainly regulated by Law No. 80 of 8 November 2012 that defines all tax incentives for foreign investments in the hotels & resorts sector, as well as other laws that complement these incentives with the main objective of increasing tourism development in our country.
For example, hotel investments in the Panama countryside over US$250,000 may benefit from tax incentives, such as exemption for five years for the import of materials not manufactured in Panama. Also, they will not pay for property tax on land and improvements for 15 years, among others.
