Posted on 2018-07-26

Business Panama ImageThe governments of Panama and Chile undertook to promote an agro-industrial hub and a cruise route with the purpose of expanding the commercial relationship between both countries and the region. The announcement was made during a visit to Panama made by Chilean President Sebastián Piñeira to his counterpart Juan Carlos Varela during the "Velas Latinoamérica 2018" naval event.

As a result of this bilateral meeting, in which the Foreign Minister of Panama, Isabel de Saint Malo de Alvarado and her Chilean counterpart, Roberto Ampuero, also participated, it was agreed that Chile will be the first Latin American ally of the Logistics Hub of Panama, an initiative that will allow that the South American nation benefits from the country's logistics platform for the redistribution of Chilean food for export, adding value with Panamanian agro-industrial products, thus diversifying its export offer globally.

In this strengthening of the bilateral strategic alliance between Panama and Chile as well, they will jointly promote a Pacific-South cruise route, connecting the new cruise terminal in Amador, in the Pacific Ocean and the Port of Valparaíso, in order to increase tourism between both countries. During the official visit of the Chilean President to Panama, both leaders signed a joint declaration that consolidates the commitments and upcoming actions that ensure the strengthening of the bilateral relationship, such as the signing of agreements on productive linkages, customs and humanitarian assistance.
