Tourism boosts employment and SMEs, Felipe Chapman points out
Felipe Chapman Highlights Tourism as a Key Driver for Jobs and SME Growth.
Panama’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Felipe Chapman, underscored the strategic importance of tourism as an economic engine, particularly for its ability to boost Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), which are the country’s primary job creators. Chapman noted that improved air connectivity, through increased routes and seating capacity, directly correlates with international visitor arrivals and local economic activity.
The Minister explained that expanded air capacity not only diversifies source markets but also creates a multiplier effect benefiting retail, gastronomy, and transportation sectors. "Tourism is a driver for labor inclusion," Chapman stated, describing the current growth as a "win-win" for both economic expansion and social stability.
Regarding administrative matters, Chapman confirmed that Cepanim-related procedures remain available through both digital and in-person channels. Additionally, he addressed recent fiscal discussions, noting that he has maintained a distance from initial Cabinet and National Assembly processes to ensure procedural integrity.
